The Kansas City Jazz Summit will take place April 23 - 27, 2012. This will cater to middle school and high school jazz bands, combos and jazz choirs and will take place at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Groups will perform beginning at 8:00am in the Performing Arts Center at KCKCC.

The goal and hope is to make the Kansas City Jazz Summit a destination festival for ensembles from across the United States and Canada. The Summit will promote Kansas City and all that is Kansas City.

Levels of participation: 

1. Jazz Summit (Non-Competitive)
Middle School, High School, Jazz Bands, Combos and Jazz Choirs, No winners and Outstanding groups may be recognized by the adjudicators (no minimum or maximum) and will receive a trophy. Outstanding soloists will receive awards.

2. Kansas City Jazz Heritage Category
Basically Basie  (Competitive - Thursday Only) Groups will be required to pick three tunes from the established list of Count Basie repertoire the selections must have been recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra. The winning group will receive a trophy and will be invited to perform on the evening concert with the Kansas City Jazz Quintet. Groups will be judged on their authenticity and attention to detail.

3. Jazz Tyro
Designed for the younger bands with very little experience and or odd instrumentation. Groups will receive positive comments only and a clinic after their performance.


Awards for Outstanding Soloists, Woodwinds, Trumpet, Trombone, and Rhythm Section performers.
